walked around
the ghost town mall
then went to a diner
and I ordered scrambled eggs
and blueberry pancakes
she got a hot turkey sandwich
and chicken noodle soup
we argued a little over
my overanalysis of the server’s
disposition—I kind of thought
her personality was a put-on
she seemed too cheery
and peppy for waiting tables
on a friday night
we didn’t argue for long
I sipped as much of her coffee
as my superego would allow me to
